Hosted by the Vietnam Society, a dynamic organization with a mission to promote understanding of Vietnam’s rich history and culture through its artistic and cultural heritage, the event witnessed the participation of thousands from diverse communities in Washington D.C. and beyond.

Attendees, comprising cultural and historical experts from Vietnam and across the US, were treated to a spectacular showcase. They witnessed the splendor of royal Nguyen Dynasty attire, discovered the woodblock prints of the iconic ‘Truyện Kiều’, and indulged in the culinary delights of Hue, to name a few highlights.

The event offered a vibrant and immersive glimpse into Vietnam’s past through colorful and intricate royal costumes and processions from the late 19th century, captivating all in attendance.

Erin Stenhauer Phuong, the visionary founder of Vietnam Society, emphasized the event’s role in fostering community connections and preserving the timeless values of Vietnamese culture.

“We are thrilled to present the enchanting facets of Vietnam’s millennia-old cultural legacy to an international audience, the American public, and our fellow Vietnamese community in the US,” expressed Erin Stenhauer Phuong.

The Vietnam Society has consistently organized cultural programs at the National Museum of Asian Art during the Lunar New Year, alongside presentations from other communities like China and the Republic of Korea.

Andrew Well Dang, a Vietnam specialist from the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), underscored the museum’s significance as a longstanding cultural hub. He highlighted Vietnam’s diverse and ancient culture, which deserves to be shared and celebrated, and praised the event for its effective presentation to an American audience.

Vietnam Week 2024 extended beyond cultural exhibitions, hosting a youth forum on heritage and peace. This platform empowered young Vietnamese Americans and others to voice their ideas and aspirations for the future. The forum also facilitated roundtable discussions between USIP experts, scholars, and representatives from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, fostering a shared vision for a prosperous and peaceful Vietnam.

Vietnam Week 2024 served as a celebration of Vietnam’s cultural wealth, strengthening the identity of the Vietnamese American community, honoring their achievements, and inspiring future generations to come.
