Pham Hai Yen opened the scoring for Vietnam when she headed into the far corner following a cross from Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung in the 11th minute.

The visitors made it 3-0 three minutes later as Nepali defender Amrita Jaishi unfortunately gifted a goal.

Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung sent a pinpoint pass to Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, who deftly released the ball to the center of the pitch. However, Jaishi impacted the trajectory of the ball, causing it to unexpectedly deflect and surprise goalkeeper Anjila Tumbapo Subba.

Vietnam sealed their victory with a fourth goal three minutes into the second half, when skipper Huynh Nhu capitalized on a cross from Hoang Thi Loan to find the back of the net.

Sabitra Bhandari slashed the deficit for the home team with just one minute left in the game, in the 79th minute.

Fed by Saru Limbu with a pinpoint through ball at the edge of the penalty box, Bhandari confidently fired the ball past the advancing goalkeeper, Khong Thi Hang.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha scored an incredible goal to give Vietnam a four-goal advantage as the Nepali goalkeeper, Subba, was unable to predict the trajectory of the ball from 35 yards away. Nha’s remarkable strike sparked joyous celebrations amongst her teammates and the fans.

Following the thrilling 5-1 play, the two teams are set to face off in a highly-anticipated rematch on Saturday.

Striker Huynh Nhu netted a brace as Vietnam put in a scintillating display to trounce hosts Nepal 5-1 in the opening game of the first qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday.
