Moscow: Vietnam holds a significant position in the scientific realm, being one of the founding nations of the esteemed Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, commonly referred to as the Dubna Institute. This institute is a powerhouse of scientific research, not just in Russia but worldwide.
During wartime, Vietnam dispatched eminent scientists to JINR, fostering a culture of learning and innovation. Their contributions laid the groundwork for technological advancements and played a pivotal role in the country’s progression. Since 1982, with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) taking the helm as Vietnam’s official representative at JINR, the training of scientific talent has become more structured. This has paved the way for a highly skilled scientific community, integral to Vietnam’s journey of renewal.
Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, VAST Vice President, highlighted the impact of the Party Central Committee’s Resolution 45 and Resolution 57. These resolutions, focusing on intellectual workforce development and scientific advancements, respectively, elevate the importance of nurturing the next generation of scientists at Dubna.

With Vietnam’s renewed focus on atomic power, the scientists at the institute are poised to make significant socio-economic contributions. They are instrumental in training high-caliber scientific experts, particularly in fundamental science and its practical applications.
JINR, led by Dr. Grigory Trubnikov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Science, currently boasts around 30 Vietnamese scientists on its team. With nearly 20 more set to join, the institute’s research agenda aligns closely with Vietnam’s governmental priorities.
Vietnam’s ambitious science and technology agenda has ignited a spark among the young scientific community at the Dubna Institute, fostering a new wave of enthusiasm for international collaboration and cutting-edge research. This solidifies Vietnam’s standing in the global high-tech science and technology landscape.
