The Hanoi Times — Vietnamese youth, whether residing in Vietnam or abroad, along with non-Vietnamese youth currently enrolled in high schools and universities in the country, are invited to participate in the Legacy in Ink – Vietnamese Writers’ Global Contest 2025. Kicking off on March 20 and running until April 20, the contest centers around the theme, “The Spirit of Us.” It invites young Vietnamese from all over the world to put quill to paper and express their unique perspectives on Vietnamese culture and heritage, thereby promoting a sense of Vietnamese identity through their literary creations.
As the organizers eloquently put it, while each writer may interpret “Vietnamese identity” differently, they share a collective responsibility: to safeguard, advance, and spread the essence of the nation’s rich cultural tapestry.
What makes this contest truly special is its celebration of linguistic freedom. Participants are encouraged to submit their entries in either Vietnamese or English, or both! It’s a testament to the power of words and the ability to transcend language barriers. The contest aims to empower writers to unleash their creativity and share their masterpieces with a global audience.
More than just a competition, Legacy in Ink serves as a platform for cultural dialogue, bridging generations and instilling a sense of pride in “The Spirit of Us.”

Aspiring poets and fiction/creative nonfiction writers are invited to submit their best work of 1,500 words or less. Participants have the flexibility to choose Vietnamese, English, or both languages for their submissions. For entries in Vietnamese, authors are encouraged to provide an English translation without worrying about perfection.
