The upcoming exhibition, “Hangeul – The Korean Writing System,” offers a contemporary perspective on the Korean language for visitors.
Showcasing housewares, fashion items, and graphic designs, the exhibition explores the structure of Hangeul and its modern reinterpretations.
According to RoK ambassador Choi Young-sam to Vietnam, Korean is the first foreign language taught in Vietnamese schools, with over 60 colleges and universities offering Korean language departments. This showcases the enthusiastic embrace of the Korean wave in Vietnam, surpassing that of any other country.
A key highlight of the exhibition is an installation by artist Lee Hwayoung, titled “Hangeul.” It features two doors with graphic designs, symbolizing how language opens a window to a new world in the modern era.
Initiated by the National Hangeul Museum in 2016, this annual exhibition invites artists to experiment with Hangeul as an art form. They adapt and incorporate it into their unique artistic expressions.
Taking place from July 15 to August 9 at the National Library in Hanoi, the exhibition will also witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the RoK’s museum and the Vietnam National Library. This agreement aims to foster cooperation, exchange academic documents, and promote cultural events and seminars, including writing letters, to enhance mutual understanding.
Additionally, the exhibition will showcase lacquerware by artist Namgwon Lyu and feature “The Art of Calligraphy” experience, where an education team will teach local participants calligraphy techniques, empowering them to create their own Hangeul-inspired artworks.
The Korean Cultural Centre in Vietnam, established in 2006 as the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, proudly co-hosts this exhibition.
