The Hanoi Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Hanoi UNESCO Travel Club, organized an event to implement the National Action Program on Sustainable Consumption and Production for the decade. This event also aligned with the Hanoi Department of Tourism’s Plan 96/KH-SDL from July 31, 2024, for the development of the city’s tourism sector.
Marking the 15th anniversary of the Hanoi UNESCO Travel Club, this event united travel agencies, tourism service providers, transport companies, and accommodation businesses from across Vietnam. It served as a meaningful platform for industry professionals to connect and explore new opportunities.
With 200 participants in attendance, the event witnessed a diverse range of representatives, including those from the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the Hanoi UNESCO Association, the People’s Committee of Duong Lam Commune, and the Management Board of Duong Lam Ancient Village. Domestic and international tourism businesses, along with club members, also joined in, showcasing their support and engagement.

One of the primary objectives of the event was to facilitate connections between travel service businesses and tourist destinations in Son Tay Town, fostering the creation of new tours and itineraries. It provided a platform for Hanoi travel agencies and local tourism service providers to interact, share experiences, and collaborate on product development. Additionally, the program aimed to transform Duong Lam Ancient Village into an eco-friendly and captivating destination, promoting environmental protection and cultural preservation for future generations.
Participants indulged in a range of activities, including exploring Va Temple and Mia Pagoda, ancient houses, temples, and shrines, and immersing themselves in traditional customs and handicrafts. The event also offered a culinary journey, showcasing local specialties such as roasted pork, Mia chicken, Mong Phu soy sauce, Che Lam sweet cake, and Keo Doi peanut candy.
A memorable highlight was the unveiling ceremony of a promotional sign with a powerful message: “Tourism businesses unite to protect the environment: Say ‘No’ to plastic waste.” This signified a commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism practices.

Truong Minh Tien, Chairman of the Hanoi UNESCO Association and a member of the Hanoi UNESCO Travel Club, emphasized the initiative’s significance. He shared that it promotes an eco-conscious lifestyle and raises environmental awareness among tourism stakeholders, travelers, and communities. Additionally, it contributes to expanding sustainable destinations across Hanoi, supporting the long-term development of Vietnam’s tourism sector.
“Waste, especially plastic waste, is a pressing global and national issue,” said Truong Minh Tien. “Tourism activities can generate significant plastic waste. We aim to create a ripple effect, encouraging environmental protection and a refusal to use plastic waste in tourism practices.”
He further expressed his hope that locals, tourists, and travel companies would embrace this eco-friendly spirit, strengthen their commitment to environmental awareness, and actively reduce plastic waste through their actions.
