The latest data reveals a notable surge in international interest for Vietnam as a tourist destination. From late November 2024 to the end of January 2025, online searches for tourist accommodations in Vietnam increased by 15 to 30% compared to the same period in the previous year. This upward trend persisted into the first half of February 2025, with search volumes climbing even higher, ranging from 30 to 45%.

When it comes to country-specific search data, the United States leads the way, followed by Australia, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and Malaysia. These countries represent Vietnam’s key tourism markets across Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America.

Notably, Australia and India, ranking second and third in search volume, showcase significant potential and untapped opportunities for growth within the Vietnamese tourism industry. This indicates that Vietnam’s appeal as a travel destination extends beyond its traditional source markets.

Reinforcing this positive trend, international searches for information about Vietnam tourism experienced another significant spike in the first half of February 2025, surging by 30% – 45%.

When it comes to specific destinations within Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Da Lat, Phan Thiet, Hue, and Vung Tau are the top ten spots that capture the interest of international travelers. This diverse range of locations offers a mix of vibrant cities, picturesque beaches, and cultural experiences, catering to a wide range of travel preferences.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), Vietnam welcomed 2.1 million international visitors in January 2025, reflecting an encouraging increase of 18.5% from December 2024 and a significant 36.9% rise compared to January 2024. This milestone surpasses the pre-pandemic high of nearly 2 million international visitors recorded in January 2020.

The relaxed visa policy and innovative promotional campaigns in 2024 played a pivotal role in stimulating demand for Vietnam as a travel destination. As a result, Vietnam’s tourism brand has gained prominence and recognition in the highly competitive global market.

Looking ahead, the local tourism sector has set its sights on ambitious goals for 2025. These include attracting 22-23 million international visitors, catering to 120-130 million domestic tourists, and generating approximately US$39 to 42 billion in revenue from tourism services. Additionally, the sector aims to create 5.5 million jobs, further underscoring the industry’s economic significance.

By 2030, Vietnam’s tourism sector aspires to become a key economic driver, targeting approximately 35 million international visitors and 160 million domestic tourists. The recent surge in demand from international travelers is a testament to the effectiveness of the newly implemented open visa policy and the success of groundbreaking promotional initiatives. These factors, combined with an ever-evolving array of rich, attractive, and high-quality tourism products and services, have elevated Vietnam’s standing as a world-class travel destination.

In a recent development, the Vietnamese Government issued Resolution No.11, introducing visa exemptions for citizens of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland from March 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025. This strategic move is expected to provide a significant boost to Vietnam’s tourism industry, attracting more international visitors from these European markets in the coming year.
