Hanoi, Vietnam – Approximately 1,700 tourists, predominantly Japanese nationals, are set to embark on a chartered cruise journey to Ha Long City in the picturesque northern province of Quang Ninh on April 30. This excursion is organized by Peace Boat, an esteemed Japanese cruise tour operator, and marks their first-ever such initiative.
On March 12, representatives from Peace Boat docked in Ha Long to oversee the preparations for their esteemed delegation’s arrival. Toda Yoshiaki, Director of the Cruise Tourism Division at Peace Boat, elucidated that the sole reason for choosing Ha Long Bay as the exclusive stop on this cruise is its unparalleled beauty and global acclaim as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. He further added that Japanese tourists have long expressed a deep-seated desire to explore this magnificent bay.
Yoshiaki also disclosed that the company strategically planned the ship’s arrival to coincide with a significant date in Vietnam’s history—April 30—a day that commemorates the country’s reunification.
The voyage will commence from Kobe, Japan, on April 20, with the ship making its way through various ports before anchoring in Ha Long on the morning of April 30. This well-timed arrival will allow tourists to partake in the special events and festivities organized in Vietnam to commemorate this momentous occasion.
During their brief yet captivating one-day sojourn, tourists will be strategically divided into groups to explore Ha Long Bay, immerse themselves in the city’s vibrant culture, and potentially venture to the nearby city of Hai Phong or experience the rustic charm of rural villages.

The Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has assured that the province will extend its full support and ensure a seamless and secure visit for these esteemed tourists.
At a reception hosted for Peace Boat representatives, as well as travel agencies and maritime agents in Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee, underscored the significance of this inaugural Japanese cruise ship visit. She attributed this milestone to the diligent negotiations and promotional endeavors of provincial authorities and relevant organizations. Hanh emphasized that this event presents a unique opportunity to foster cruise tourism between Japan and Quang Ninh, aligning with the province’s aspiration to attract high-end international tourists.
Quang Ninh is steadfast in its commitment to providing optimal conditions for this event, developing captivating tourism products, and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all visitors. Hanh expressed her hope that this historic visit will propel Quang Ninh to the forefront as a premier destination for international cruise lines, particularly those originating from Japan.
Looking ahead, Quang Ninh aims to welcome approximately 20 million tourists, including 4.5 million foreign visitors, by the year 2025. The province anticipates total tourism revenue to reach an impressive 55 trillion VND (2.16 billion USD) during this period.
