The Hanoi Ao Dai Festival is an annual celebration that showcases the elegant beauty of the Vietnamese traditional long dress, the Ao Dai. This year’s event, taking place in October 2024, will be a spectacular showcase of Hanoi’s tourism industry and a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation Day of the Capital.

The festival kicks off with an art performance on October 4 at the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center, a fitting venue to commemorate the city’s rich history. The performance will be a tribute to Hanoi’s liberation and a celebration of its cultural heritage.

At the heart of the festival is a deep love for the Ao Dai and a desire to preserve and promote Vietnam’s traditional cultural values. This is reflected in the wide range of activities on offer, from fashion shows and design contests to exhibitions and food fairs.

The festival’s highlight is a parade on October 5, where locals donning Ao Dai will walk through the heritage conservation center and iconic streets of Hanoi, including Hoang Dieu, Hoang Van Thu, and Doc Lap. The procession will culminate at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a symbol of the city’s glorious past.

The Hanoi Women’s Union is also hosting an online contest, encouraging participants to don the Ao Dai and capture photographs against the backdrop of the capital’s famous tourist spots. This interactive element of the festival invites residents and tourists alike to engage with Hanoi’s cultural heritage in a creative and modern way.

With its combination of cultural preservation, artistic expression, and community engagement, the Hanoi Ao Dai Festival promises to be a memorable event that celebrates the best of Hanoi’s tourism and traditional culture.
