The relationship between Vietnam and the Institute of Technology (IUT) Béziers, an esteemed member of the renowned University of Montpellier, has emerged as a shining example of thriving educational cooperation between the Southeast Asian nation and France. This development builds upon the solid foundation of their robust comprehensive strategic partnership.

During a recent visit by Vietnamese Ambassador to France, Dinh Toan Thang, to IUT Béziers, the institute’s director, Jérôme Azé, highlighted the growing collaboration with Vietnam. This is evident from the increasing number of Vietnamese students at IUT and the exchange programs facilitating French students’ exposure to Vietnam.

According to Azé, this partnership is relatively young, having been established only about two years ago. It coincided with France’s higher education reform program, which transitioned from the DUT to the BUT in 2021.

IUT Béziers is a prominent educational institution in southern France, being one of 17 training centers affiliated with the University of Montpellier. With approximately 600 students, the institute offers specialized programs in commercial technology, multimedia and internet information systems, cybersecurity, and telecommunications. Recognizing the challenges of the future, IUT Béziers has recently established a department dedicated to robotics and artificial intelligence. Furthermore, starting from 2026, the institute will introduce a three-year work-study engineering program in industrial technology, with a focus on hydrogen production—an area of interest for Vietnam’s development.

In recent years, IUT Béziers has proudly hosted ten Vietnamese students, four of whom are currently in their second or third year of studies. Most of these students have chosen to focus on commercial technology and multimedia and internet information fields.

Sandrine Grenier, who oversees senior students in the commercial technology department, shared her positive observations about the Vietnamese students’ adaptability and progress. She noted their excellent integration into the training environment and the significant improvement in their French language skills over time.

Grenier highlighted the achievements of two standout Vietnamese students. One is currently on an exchange program at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, a prestigious European institution. The other has been selected for an exchange semester at Ireland’s Trinity College, a leading European university. Additionally, another Vietnamese student has successfully integrated into a French company through a work-study program.

IUT Béziers has not only welcomed Vietnamese students but has also actively sent its students to Vietnam as part of its exchange initiatives. Grenier mentioned that two students and one lecturer have been sent to the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), IUT Béziers’ first partner in Vietnam. They are engaged in studies related to business analytics, supply chain management, and commercial English. Additionally, the institute is in discussions to establish a cooperation agreement with the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

Looking ahead, IUT Béziers aims to expand its exchange programs, introduce dual-degree options, and collaborate on research projects in advanced technology fields. These efforts align with Vietnam’s need for high-quality human resources and further strengthen the educational ties between the two countries.

Ambassador Thang affirmed the desire to elevate the cooperation in training and education with France to new heights, building upon the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
