Vietnam is the only country in Southeast Asia chosen by the Organizing Committee for the Ryder Cup 2023 to launch promotional activities. With its unique culture and vibrant atmosphere, Vietnam is the perfect location for the event.

At the presentation, Ambassador Alessandro expressed his ardent desire for Italy and Vietnam to cooperate in developing golf tourism programs.

The ambassador revealed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that he had recently held a meeting with the director of the Italian National Agency for Tourism, who was on a visit to Vietnam. He expressed his great delight at the opportunity to discuss potential tourism collaborations between the two nations.

One of the objectives of the trip was to investigate and create cooperative opportunities between Vietnam and other countries in the areas of sports and tourism, Ambassador Alessandro stated.

“Golf is a prime example of how sport tourism can be a source of collaboration between two countries,” the diplomat asserted.

The esteemed ambassador joined a cohort of other influential speakers to delve into the potential opportunities and challenges of both organizing major golf events and developing golf movements in both Italy and Vietnam. With a deep understanding of the nuances and complexities of the country’s respective golf landscapes, the panel provided valuable insight and perspective on how best to move forward.

As part of the activities promoting the upcoming Ryder Cup 2023 and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Italy diplomatic relations, the Vietnam Golf Service Group will be hosting a Vietnam-Italy Golf Tournament at the Long Bien Golf Club in Hanoi on Monday. This special event promises to be an exciting and memorable celebration of two countries uniting through the shared passion for golf. Participants from both Vietnam and Italy will be competing in the tournament, and everyone is invited to join in the festivities. So mark your calendars and come out to Long Bien Golf Club on Monday to be part of this special event!

This friendship tournament, organized by the group in partnership with the Embassy of Italy and the sports platform We Love Sport, is expected to draw in 100 golfers from both countries. It is expected to be an exciting event that will bring people together and foster a strong bond between Italy and Vietnam.

Vietnam welcomed nearly three million international golfers in 2019, and the country is now executing a strategy to draw in even more golfers from the region, as well as from Australia and European nations including Italy, as per the presentation.

Regarding the potential for golf tourism development in Vietnam, Pham Thanh Tri, standing vice-president of the Vietnam Golf Tourism Association, expressed optimism that golf tourism could contribute up to US$10 billion to the country’s tourist industry annually in the coming years. He believes that the development of golf tourism in Vietnam is an opportunity that should not be overlooked.

Each foreigner visiting Vietnam for golfing spends, on average, two to three times more than a regular foreign visitor to the country, according to Tri’s estimation.

The World Golf Awards (WGA) has recognized Vietnam as the World’s Best Golf Destination for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2021, as well as the Asia’s Best Golf Destination for five consecutive years from 2017.

The World Golf Association (WGA) commented that Vietnam, with its 80 golf courses spread across the country, is “where the golf market is reviving” following the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic.
