Vietnam witnessed a significant boost in its tourism sector during the recent Lunar New Year holiday, with a notable surge in international tourist arrivals. This influx of visitors had a positive impact on hotel occupancy rates, which skyrocketed by 44.4 percent compared to the previous year.
The revenue generated from tourism is estimated to reach impressive figures, with a projected amount of VND7.69 trillion (approximately US$306.6 million). This marks a 17.4 percent increase year on year, showcasing the sector’s thriving performance.
A spokesperson from a local tour operator shared insights with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, attributing the convenient nine-day break as a key factor in encouraging tourists to embark on both short and extended trips.
This year’s holiday witnessed the emergence of a new travel trend, with many visitors opting to explore localities connected to Ho Chi Minh City via road trips in their cars. Additionally, there has been a shift towards smaller groups, with tourists favoring intimate vacations with families or friends.
The demand for premium vacation tours and ‘free and easy’ packages, encompassing flights and luxurious accommodations, has been on the rise. A representative from a local travel firm highlighted the appeal of high-end leisure tourism products, enriched with wellness programs, fitness activities, and meditation, alongside traditional Tet tours, which have captivated a significant number of travelers.
Tour operators have played a pivotal role in this success by introducing a diverse range of innovative tourism products at competitive prices, coupled with attractive discounts. This strategy, combined with Vietnam’s appeal as a holiday destination for international travelers, has resulted in a substantial influx of foreigners during Tet, as noted by the municipal department.
However, the high cost of domestic air travel during this festive period has steered some travelers towards international destinations, where tour prices are more budget-friendly, according to the municipal Department of Tourism. Countries like Thailand and China have emerged as popular alternatives for those seeking more affordable options.
Traditional international hotspots such as Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Europe, and the United States continue to be favored by Vietnamese travelers, maintaining their allure despite the rise in domestic tourism options.
