As shared by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, a plethora of captivating activities will take place in Hue City and span various provinces and cities in Vietnam. With the guiding principle of “combining strength, amplifying advantages, and unlocking success,” the program strives to offer meaningful and far-reaching initiatives. These include cultural and tourism weeks, culinary festivals, and a diverse array of artistic performances, all with the aim of transforming cultural assets and creative industries into pivotal drivers of tourism growth.

Industry experts and tourism businesses view this event as a strategic launchpad for Vietnam’s tourism sector, offering more than just a boost in visitor numbers. In an interview with Vietnam Economic News, Le Cong Nang, CEO of Wondertour, highlighted the success of the National Tourism Year – Dien Bien 2024, which showcased the power of resource leveraging and effective promotion. That event attracted 1.85 million visitors and generated VND3.3 trillion in revenue, underscoring the untapped value of Vietnam’s tourism potential.

Vietnam’s tourism sector has set its sights high for 2025, targeting 22-23 million international arrivals and serving 120-130 million domestic travelers. Tourism businesses see this as a golden opportunity for localities to enhance their infrastructure, improve service quality, and invest in human resources development. Additionally, it fosters business collaboration and community engagement, contributing to a synchronized and sustainable tourism ecosystem.

“When provinces and cities unite towards a shared goal,” emphasized Le Cong Nang, “they create an undeniable synergy that strengthens the tourism industry, boosts local economies, and elevates Vietnam’s global tourism profile.”

Given the high expectations for the National Tourism Year 2025, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Nguyen Van Hung, assured that the ministry would actively collaborate with various governmental agencies, Hue City, and businesses to implement key initiatives. These include developing a smart tourism ecosystem linked to digital transformation, enhancing connectivity and support with a focus on visitor experiences, and launching the “Vietnam tourism smile” campaign, emphasizing professional services, warm hospitality, and a clean, green environment.

Hue’s Golden Chance to Shine in the Tourism Spotlight

Being the host of the National Tourism Year 2025 presents a golden opportunity for Hue to showcase and promote its traditional cultural values, reinforcing its unique historical and cultural status as a former imperial capital.

According to Le Cong Nang, Hue is poised to attract a large number of visitors with over 170 events planned throughout 2025. “With careful preparations and collaborative efforts,” he noted, “Hue could achieve an impressive target of attracting 4.8-5 million visitors in 2025, solidifying its position in the national and international tourism landscape.”

However, for Hue’s tourism to truly flourish, experts recommend the development of unique tourism products that leverage the city’s rich cultural and heritage resources. Additionally, creating immersive and in-depth tourism experiences will enable visitors to engage more intimately with Hue’s historical sites.

Le Cong Nang suggested immersive tours of the Hue monuments, imperial tombs, and temples, offering visitors a deeper connection to the city’s historical significance. Beyond sightseeing, Hue could appeal to high-spending tourists by offering exclusive cultural experiences, such as imperial costume performances, imperial cuisine tastings, and reenactments of ancient court ceremonies.

Furthermore, investments in infrastructure are vital for sustaining long-term tourism growth. Key recommendations include developing high-quality accommodations to meet growing demand, upgrading Phu Bai Airport to enhance transport capacity and introduce new flight routes, and maximizing railway connectivity to provide additional travel options for tourists.

Pham Hai Quynh, Director of the Asia Tourism Development Institute (ATI), emphasized the importance of inter-provincial tourism cooperation in an interview with Vietnam Economic News. He suggested organizing regional tourism circuits, hosting unique festivals and cultural events, improving tourism infrastructure and services, and strengthening marketing campaigns to showcase Hue’s attractions and tourism offerings.

“Hue is committed to developing sustainable tourism, striking a balance between heritage preservation and economic growth, tradition and modernity, and culture and nature.”
