Celebrating Vietnamese Heritage: Hanoi Fashion Show Spotlights Ao Dai and Female Beauty
More than 600 ao dai (Vietnamese traditional costume) by 15 local designers were showcased on Friday night at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi as part of a series of activities titled “Our Ao Dai” within the framework of a campaign to honor the heritage as well as the beauty of Vietnamese women.
The campaign, organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU), exemplifies a highly coordinated effort.
Despite the rain, the Friday night show drew a significant crowd with over 400 performers, capturing considerable attention.
The fashion show consisted of 600 designs in 15 collections, collectively known as ‘The World in Vietnamese Ao Dai.’ These collections were crafted using traditional Vietnamese materials like silk and ramie, and showcased scenic and cultural elements from 15 distinct countries around the globe.
“These are the initial 15 collections out of a total of 100 inspired by the cultural heritages of 100 nations, which will be created by Vietnamese and international designers this year. The main message conveyed by these collections is that the Vietnamese traditional garment, known as ‘ao dai’, is remarkably versatile and can be seamlessly incorporated into varying cultural contexts. Not only is ‘ao dai’ beloved by the local population, but it also has the potential to gain global recognition,” stated Minh Hanh, the director of Friday night’s fashion event.
The stage was expertly adorned with charming green ramie pots and delicate white silkworm cocoons, perfectly complementing the materials used in the collections.
The following are the exquisite designs of the traditional Vietnamese garment, known as the “ao dai”, which were showcased during Friday night’s fashion show:
