The ‘Going to the Field’ Festival in Cam Chau Ward, Hoi An City, attracted not only hundreds of local farmers but also international travelers eager to immerse themselves in the unique cultural experience.

The festival offered a range of engaging activities, including ploughing paddy fields, planting rice seedlings, and bailing out water. It provided a rare opportunity for foreigners to connect with Vietnam’s agricultural heritage and traditions.

Among the enthusiastic participants was James, a tourist from New Zealand, for whom this was a thrilling and memorable experience. He shared his excitement, saying, “It was challenging to walk in the mud and steer the buffalo simultaneously, but it was well worth it. This is definitely a highlight of my trip to Hoi An.”

Local farmers played a crucial role in guiding and supporting foreign tourists as they navigated the unfamiliar farming tasks.

In addition to the hands-on activities, the festival also treated visitors to a culinary journey with local specialties. These included the renowned cao lau, a noodle dish served with shrimp and pork in a savory broth, mi Quang, and the ever-popular banh xeo pancakes.

The event also featured a contest titled ‘I am a farmer,’ along with other entertaining games. It fostered a sense of community and shared knowledge, especially as farmers prepared for the upcoming planting season.

Nguyen The Hung, vice-chairman of the Hoi An administration, underscored the significance of the festival in preserving and promoting Vietnam’s rich rice-farming cultural heritage. He emphasized that initiatives like these motivate farmers to excel in production while offering visitors a glimpse into traditional practices, aligning with the city’s vision for sustainable and culturally immersive tourism.
