‘This is the person!’
Mikami discovered her passion for singing in middle school and dreamed of becoming a singer.
Although she faced multiple rejections during auditions, Mikami persevered and participated in live singing shows to improve her skills.
She even traveled to New York alone to receive professional voice training.
Afterwards, Mikami started receiving invitations to perform at festivals in France, Brazil, and Thailand, which fueled her desire for an international life and deepened her love for traveling.
A significant turning point came in 2016 when Mikami visited Vietnam for the first time with a friend.
“After that trip, I fell in love with Vietnam’s vibrant atmosphere, warm-hearted people, and vibrant culture. A year later, I decided to move here,” Mikami shared with Tuoi Tre News.
Having traveled to 35 countries, Vietnam stood out as the only destination, aside from Japan, where Mikami felt a strong desire to live.
“I can’t explain why, but it might be because I fell in love with Vietnam,” she said.
“When you fall in love with someone, there are various reasons like looks, personality, and values, but at first, you instinctively know, ‘This is the person!’
“I couldn’t exactly explain why I wanted to live in Vietnam, but it was similar to that feeling, and I wanted to explore more about this beautiful country.”

‘My love song to Vietnam’
In 2023, Nammy Mikami composed a song titled ‘Souda! Betonamu ni ikimashou’ (Let’s Come to Vietnam!), which secured the second-place position in a competition dedicated to creating a Vietnam-Japan friendship song. The competition was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“I wrote this song because I fell head over heels in love with Vietnam during my first visit. It’s my love song to Vietnam,” Mikami confessed.
“I created this song with the hope that my Japanese friends who listen to it will become interested in Vietnam.”
The multitalented singer-songwriter is also working on music that combines Japanese and Vietnamese languages.
“I want to channel my experiences in Vietnam into my music,” she explained.
“However, Vietnamese has different tones, which I find challenging. I’m still learning Vietnamese, and although I’m not fluent, I’ll do my best to connect with the Vietnamese audience through my music.”

In addition to her music career, Mikami inspires people to visit Vietnam through her lively YouTube videos. She takes her audience on a journey to discover Vietnamese delicacies and attractions.
“Although my subscriber count is not extremely high, I see a steady increase in viewers every day,” Mikami shared.
“Most of my viewers are from Japan.
“Some of them only learned about Vietnam during their school days, while others have no idea about Vietnam’s development.
“When I see comments like ‘I want to live in such a fascinating country!’ it makes me proud to showcase Vietnam.”
