This year’s golf tournament, the BRG Open Golf Championship Da Nang 2022, which will take place from August 30 to September 2 at the BRG Da Nang Golf Resort, which was recently voted by Golf Digest Magazine as one of the ‘Top 100 best golf courses in the world in 2022,’ the city’s Department of Tourism said last week.

The city’s annual hosting of the golf tournament from 2022 to 2024 aims to promote the image of Da Nang and attract more international visitors to the coastal city, stated Nguyen Xuan Binh, deputy director of the department.

These tournaments are part of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) system, which was launched in 2010 as a developmental circuit of the Asian Tour, the official regional sanctioning body for professional golf in Asia, Binh added.

“On behalf of the Asian Tour and our feeder circuit the ADT, we are thrilled to welcome onboard the BRG Open Golf Championship,” said Ken Kudo, associate director of partnerships at Asian Tour.

Kudo also stated that the tournament “will play an important role in helping to re-ignite tournament golf in Vietnam, following a difficult three years caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

According to the website ‘Da Nang Fantasticity’ under the Da Nang Center for Tourism Promotion, the tournament’s organizers are the Da Nang People’s Committee and ADT while the executing unit is Vietnam Golf Event Organization Service Corporation (VGS Group).

The golf tournament, with the message ‘Infinite Connections,’ is expected to gather 144 golfers, including 122 ADT members and 22 players nominated by the Vietnam Golf Association, according to Asian Tour.

Hanoi-based BRG Group, one of Vietnam’s leading private multi-sector economic groups, is the three tournaments’ sponsor, according to the Da Nang Portal.

This year’s tournament is expected to cost US$175,000, including $75,000 for prizes.

The upcoming golf event is included in the 2022 Da Nang Golf Tourism Festival, which will be conducted from August 28 to September 2 at the same resort and other tourist attractions in the city and some other central localities, the local tourism department said.

In addition to the tournament, the festival will include international seminars on golf tourism development, sightseeing and experience activities, golf practice sessions, culinary promotion activities, and a Miss Golf contest, according to the festival’s organizers.

Da Nang’s tourism industry has recovered vigorously from the pandemic by conducting many major events such as the Asia Route Development Forum, Da Nang Fantastic Festival and Hot Air Balloon Festival, and the upcoming Da Nang Golf Tourism Festival.

The city is well known for beautiful beaches and high-class golf courses designed by world-famous golfers like Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman, said Tran Phuoc Son, deputy chairman of the Da Nang administration and head of the festival organizing board.

Son expressed his hope that the fest, with the spotlight of the golf tournament, will contribute to spreading beautiful images of Vietnamese people, nature, and scenery, as well as attracting golf lovers and tourists to Da Nang and Vietnam.
