A unique concept is taking the city’s youth by storm – a blend of relaxation and physical activity in the form of archery cafes. These venues offer an intriguing twist to the usual coffee shop experience.
Nguyen Hoang Nam and his friends are among those captivated by this new trend. On a recent weekend, they gathered at a cafe on Vo Nghia Street in Phuoc My Ward, Son Tra District, their eyes glued to the target as they skillfully assembled their bows.
Nam used to frequent various hangout spots around town with his friends. However, since the emergence of archery cafes, their weekends have taken on a new routine.
Between sips of coffee and relaxed conversations, they occasionally engage in friendly shooting contests, with the loser treating the group to drinks. “It started as a fun experiment, but we quickly became addicted,” Nam admitted.
Archery, as Nam describes it, is a practice that enhances focus, balance, and breath control. It’s a mental and physical challenge that provides a unique sense of satisfaction.

At archery cafes, patrons can receive guidance from professional instructors, learning the basics and improving their technique. Some cafes even host small competitions, fostering a sense of community and friendly rivalry among customers.
Pham Quoc Thai, manager of CEN Archery & Coffee – Tea, a cafe offering Japanese-style archery and coffee, shared his insights on the growing popularity of this concept. “Despite being a new model, we’ve seen a steady increase in patrons eager to learn and play archery. We welcome dozens of young people daily, and our cafe is packed on weekends with many long-term members,” he said.
With an affordable hourly rate of VND100,000 (US$3.94), archery is now accessible to people of all ages as a healthy and engaging leisure activity.
In addition to cafes, archery clubs have also sprung up to meet the demand for professional training and a more dedicated space for enthusiasts to hone their skills.
