The finale took place in Phu Quoc Island City off Kien Giang Province in the Mekong Delta region with the participation of 35 contestants.

Luong Ky Duyen, 22, 1.72 meters tall, weighing 49kg, was considered outstanding for her beauty and performance skills in the final night.

She is a student at the Academy of Journalism and Communication in Hanoi and participated in a beauty pageant for university students in 2020.

She also won several prizes in her studies and played for the national chess team.

However, Duyen’s answer to the judges’ question in the interview session on Sunday night was considered dull.

Being asked about her action plan as a tourism ambassador in order to promote Vietnam’s tourism after the adverse impacts of COVID-19, she generally mentioned the importance of tourism policies and her acquisition of more knowledge about tourism, culture, and society and participation in more tourism and environment campaigns.

The media also criticized the judges’ questions for the contestants, such as “What qualities does the Miss Tourism Vietnam 2022 need?” and “If you are crowned, what will you do to contribute to Vietnam’s development?” as nonsense and valueless.

Besides Duyen, Trinh Thi Truc Linh and Tran Nguyen Phuong Thanh were selected as the first and second runners-up, respectively.

At the end of the night, Duyen received the crown and a VND300 million (US$12,110) cash prize.

The corresponding cash prizes for Linh and Thanh were VND200 million ($8,075) and VND100 million ($4,038).

Duyen’s crowning also ended 35-year-old Phan Thi Ngoc Diem’s 14-year reign since the first Miss Tourism Vietnam pageant was held in 2008.

Miss Tourism Vietnam 2022 was the second time the beauty contest had been organized.
