The 2024 Ha Long Carnaval in Vietnam’s northeastern coastal province of Quang Ninh commenced on the evening of April 28, themed “Bright with Wonders,” captivating tourists with spectacular fireworks and drone light shows.

Addressing the kick-off ceremony, Chairman of the Ha Long City People’s Committee Nguyen Tien Dung highlighted that the festival’s centerpiece this year is the live scene demonstration and the inaugural sea-based carnival in Vietnam.

The festival endeavors to promote Ha Long Bay’s iconic status, marking 30 years since its inscription by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site, while bolstering the brand of Ha Long Carnaval.

Ha Long Carnaval 2024 presents captivating performances and parades by the sea and on the beach of the renowned UNESCO-listed bay, illuminating the World Natural Heritage Site’s beauty at night.

For the first time, a floating stage was erected off Bai Chay beach, accommodating approximately 200 boats. Fireworks and LED displays enthrall both local and international visitors, complemented by an exceptional drone light show featuring 1,600-2,300 drones depicting the city’s iconic symbols.

The artistic program unfolds across five scenes: “Legends of Ha Long,” “Fishing Village,” “Trading Port,” “Ha Long Heritage Carnaval,” and “Brighten up with Wonders,” featuring thousands of professional and amateur performers.

Over the coming days, the festival will showcase local creative teams, renowned artists and artisans, as well as international singers and dance troupes from Japan’s Hokkaido, China’s Guangxi, Laos, Thailand, and Europe. It will also welcome approximately 2,000 beauty queens, professional artists, and folk artisans.

The theme of Carnaval Ha Long 2024 is emblazoned across the sky by drone lights and brilliant fireworks.

Boat tours offer a unique perspective of the displays from the sea, with tickets priced at VND300,000-450,000 (US$12-16) per person.

Furthermore, as part of the Ha Long Tourism Week 2024, the city will host various events, including the opening of a culinary pedestrian street, a sports tournament, a beer festival, and the province’s popular Cha Muc (Beer and Squid Pie Festival), along with lion-dragon dance, modern dance, and kite festivals.

 Beer and Squid Pie Festival 2024 takes place from April 27 to May 1 in Ha Long Bay.

Nearly 50 cultural, sports, and tourism events will be held in the second quarter of this year, with the aim of attracting at least 17 million tourists (including 3 million international visitors) and generating VND39.1 trillion (US$1.5 billion) in tourism revenue by 2024.
