On November 21, the India-EU Joint Working Group on Energy met, co-chaired by Tanmaya Lal of India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Ditte Juul Jorgensen of the European Commission.
The gathering included representatives from India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Ministry of Power, and the EU’s Directorate General for Energy and Climate Action.
The session witnessed the undertaking and completion of joint initiatives, encompassing technical cooperation across 51 activities within nine sectors.
Additionally, the group outlined a framework for green hydrogen collaboration, emphasizing policy coordination between India and the EU.
Demonstrating their commitment, the EU and its member states participated in India’s International Conference on Green Hydrogen 2024, while India reciprocated by exclusively partnering with European Hydrogen Week 2024.
Reinforcing their dedication to clean energy, India and the EU pledged long-term research support for projects under the Trade and Technology Council Working Group, established in January 2023.
The adoption of the Work Plan for the 3rd Phase of the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership (2025-2028) underscores their joint focus on green hydrogen, offshore wind, regional connectivity, electricity market integration, smart grids, energy efficiency, and diplomatic efforts in these areas.
The group also welcomed the EU’s involvement in the International Solar Alliance and reaffirmed their cooperation with the International Energy Agency. They agreed to maintain close collaboration on clean energy initiatives within the G20 framework.
