India and Singapore join forces for law and dispute resolution cooperation

On Thursday, India and Singapore inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the field of Law and Dispute Resolution.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in a virtual meeting between the Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) of the Government of India, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law of the Government of Singapore, Edwin Tong.

The Memorandum of Understanding aims to further enhance cooperation between the two countries in areas of common interest such as international commercial dispute resolution, promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and establishing a Joint Consultative Committee to oversee the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding.

In his virtual address, Arjun Ram Meghwal emphasized the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding and stated that it reflects the collective commitment of both countries to deepen collaboration in the field of law and dispute resolution. The focus will be on sharing best practices, exchanging expertise, and facilitating capacity building initiatives.

Edwin Tong, the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law of the Government of Singapore, praised the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and highlighted the need for continuous cooperation in the legal and dispute resolution fields due to the strong economic and commercial ties between Singapore and India. He expressed the importance of supporting businesses and fostering relationships with the India Ministry of Law and Justice and the legal and dispute resolution industry players in India.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the strengthening of cooperation between India and Singapore. It aims to exchange best practices in the field of law and dispute resolution, ultimately leading to the adoption of effective mechanisms for resolving disputes through alternate dispute resolution methods.
