The trip comes amid the 30th anniversary since the initial establishment of bilateral ties.

Vietnam and South Africa first established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1993. Both countries are each other’s traditional friends and maintain a close bond, especially through exchange visits and contacts between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the African National Congress (ANC), as well as the South African Communist Party.

Deputy President Mashatile touches down in Hanoi on December 13 to mark the start of his two-day visit to the nation.

The pair hold high-level talks shortly after the conclusion of the welcome ceremony.

South Africa is the Vietnamese side’s first and only cooperation and development partner in Africa. It is the nation’s largest trading partner and export market in Africa, with two-way trade turnover hitting nearly US$1 billion during the past 10 months of this year.

Currently, South Africa has run 19 investment projects in the Vietnamese market, while Vietnam has three investment projects in South Africa.
