Van Dijk praises his youthful team for League Cup triumph
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed immense pride in his young team, who stepped up to the challenge and overcame many injured teammates, as they secured victory in the English League Cup against Chelsea with a dramatic late winning goal.
Liverpool had to face the Carabao Cup final without key players such as Mohammed Salah, Diogo Jota, and goalkeeper Alisson. After a goalless 90 minutes, the match went into extra time, and Liverpool had to rely on their mostly second-string team.
“It’s all about emotion, it’s everything. I’m extremely proud of the boys,” van Dijk said in an interview with Sky television during the post-match celebration with the fans at Wembley.
“It’s incredible to see all the young boys contributing to what we have achieved today. Onward to more victories,” van Dijk added.
After an intense and back-and-forth match with multiple scoring opportunities for both teams, van Dijk sealed the victory with a header in the final minutes of extra time.
“You should always cherish these good moments because they should never be taken for granted,” stated the Dutch defender.
