The 2021 National 3×3 U23 Basketball Championship concluded with XSKT Hau Giang 1 emerging as the winners. They showcased their superior strength by securing 21 points in both the semifinal against Hanoi 1 and the final against Air Defense – Air Force 2. The semifinals witnessed unexpected results as Air Defense – Air Force 2 caused an upset by defeating Ho Chi Minh City 1.

In the second semifinal, Nguyen Huynh Phu Vinh and his teammates dominated Hanoi 1 with a score of 21-9. XSKT Hau Giang 1 not only displayed outstanding strength but also had the advantage of having more players on their roster, as Dinh Nhat Thanh from Hanoi 1 was disqualified due to unsportsmanlike fouls. This left Vo Kim Ban, a player for Saigon Heat, with a bleeding chin, although fortunately, the injury was not severe.

Phu Vinh, who stands at a height of 2.03 meters, made a significant impact during the championship, showcasing his defensive prowess with several strong blocks. The rest of the XSKT Hau Giang 1 players also contributed with their high-class shooting skills, resulting in a comprehensive playing style for the team. This victory marks Phu Vinh’s second time winning the tournament, following his previous triumph in 2019.

Mekong Delta basketball continues to be a formidable force in the tournament, with XSKT Hau Giang 1 losing only one match against Ho Chi Minh City 1 during the group stage. Although Phu Vinh is now ineligible to compete in future seasons due to age restrictions, XSKT Hau Giang 1, representing Mekong Delta basketball, is still considered a strong team and is expected to maintain their dominance in the National 3×3 U23 Basketball Championship for years to come.

The tournament organized by the Vietnam Basketball Federation also unearthed many promising young players who have the potential to join the national 3×3 U23 basketball team and participate in international competitions, including the upcoming SEA Games.

After receiving his team’s medal on the podium, Phu Vinh expressed his emotions and encouraged his teammates, Huynh Thanh Tam, Nguyen Anh Kiet, and Son Minh Tam, to give their best in the coming years. He also thanked Vo Kim Ban for his resilience and expressed gratitude to the supporters.
