Prime Minister attends 39th ASEAN Summit

On October 26, after completing the agenda of the 38th Summit, ASEAN continued the programme of the 39th Summit, discussing issues regarding the East Sea, the Myanmar situation, cyber security, and ASEAN’s central role, among others.


Addressing the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said complicated developments that directly affect regional stability are testing the central role and prestige of ASEAN.

The core value and strength of ASEAN over the past 54 years has been solidarity, he added.

Therefore, ASEAN should continue to unite with and support Myanmar, especially when its people are experiencing many difficulties.

He called on ASEAN to show its autonomous role in maintaining peace, security and stability in the East Sea.

ASEAN should maintain its stance on the East Sea, he said, strongly promote the commitments of member countries, abide by international law, act responsibly, exercise self-restraint, and refrain from actions that cause tension or complicate the situation./.
