Linh entered the match with a significant ranking advantage over her opponent, India’s Aakarshi Kashyap, who was placed 48th in the world rankings, a full 19 spots behind the Vietnamese shuttler.
The skill disparity was evident from the outset, with Linh’s precise and aggressive play giving her an early lead. She raced ahead to take the first set, 21-14, despite Kashyap’s attempts to rally and close the gap.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with Kashyap briefly leveling the score at 3-3. However, Linh’s dominance proved too much, and she pulled away with five straight points to lead 8-3. She eventually closed out the match with a second-set score of 21-17.
With this impressive victory, Linh advances to the quarterfinals, where she will face another Indian shuttler, Tasnim Mir, ranked 72nd in the world. Given the ranking differential, Linh is the favorite to progress to the semifinals.
This is not the first time Linh has made waves in the badminton world. Last year, she became the first Vietnamese player to reach the final of the German Open, ultimately falling to Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt.
