The ASEAN Championship 2024 has been rescheduled, with the tournament now taking place from December 8, 2024, to January 5, 2025. This change was implemented by the AFF to accommodate several national teams and their players who are involved in other prestigious football competitions.
The AFF tournament usually captures the hearts of football enthusiasts across the region, and this year promises to be no different with ten teams vying for the championship title. The teams have been divided into two groups, with Group A comprising Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and either Brunei or Timor-Leste. Vietnam finds itself in Group B, alongside Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos.
Each group will witness a round-robin format, with teams playing each other home and away, ensuring a thrilling display of football talent and tactical prowess. The top two teams from each group will then advance to the knockout stages, which will consist of semi-finals and finals played over two legs.
The AFF has taken into consideration the participation of national teams whose players are also competing in the AFC Champions League Elite 2024-25 and AFC Champions League Two 2024-25. Additionally, the Indonesian national team’s involvement in the third Asian qualifying round for the FIFA World Cup 2026 played a part in this rescheduling.
With the new dates set, the 15th edition of this football extravaganza is poised to showcase the very best of ASEAN football talent, as the region’s top teams battle it out for supremacy.
