Vietnam Strengthens Military Ties with Laos and Cambodia

On March 20, Deputy Minister of National Defence, Senator Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, held individual receptions in Hanoi for Colonel Vongxay Inthakham, Defence Attaché of Laos to Vietnam, and Colonel Rem Kann, Military Attaché of Cambodia to Vietnam.

During the “Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity Year 2022”, Chien expressed his appreciation for the strong collaboration between the Ministries of National Defence.

The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence has outlined its cooperation plan for 2023. As part of this plan, specific tasks have been assigned to agencies and units to enhance collaboration with their Lao counterparts. The partnership between Vietnam and Laos has already yielded positive results.

During the meeting with Rem Kann, Chien expressed his admiration for the commendable endeavors made by the Cambodian official in successfully coordinating with various agencies and units of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence to efficiently execute bilateral defense cooperation initiatives. During their recent meeting in Tokyo, he informed the guest about his discussion with General Neang Phat, Secretary of State of National Defense of Cambodia, on the sidelines of the 12th ASEAN-Japan Deputy Defense Ministers’ Meeting. Vietnam is actively working towards attracting more investments from Japan in the areas of digital transformation and green growth, in line with the recommendations set forth in the Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiative (VJI).

Phase VIII of the initiative, which was launched in 2003, was successfully concluded in March 2023. During this phase, a total of 497 out of the 597 items were successfully completed.

Travel agents and tour operators have reported that Vietnamese travelers are showing a preference for outbound tours for the upcoming holiday starting on April 29.

The majority of cases have been reported in the southern and central regions.

According to VOV, there has been a 1.3 times increase in infections in the south-central province of Phu Yen during the first two months of this year compared to the same period last year. Unfortunately, there have been two reported deaths.

In Hanoi, the capital city, a total of 164 COVID-19 cases were detected within a span of two months.
