Vietnam and Thailand to Promote Cooperation on Labor

On the afternoon of March 24, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh met with Thai Deputy Minister of Labor Surachai Chaitrakulthong to discuss measures and steps to promote labor cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by officials of Embassy of Vietnam to Thailand, leaders and staff of Departments under the Ministry of Labor of Thailand.

At the meeting, Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh discussed with Deputy Minister Surachai Chaitrakulthong about economic cooperation between the two countries. Accordingly, Thai businesses assess that the Vietnam market provides numerous opportunities for foreign investors, especially Thai ones.

Thai corporations are investing in Vietnam with large-scale projects, hiring many Vietnamese workers. It is also said that they will continue to promote investment in Vietnam in the coming time.

Besides, the Vietnamese Government always creates favorable conditions for Thai workers in Vietnam. The Vietnamese Ambassador expressed his thank and appreciation for the support that Thailand has offered to Vietnamese laborers in recent years. At the same time, he suggested that Thailand would open more opportunities in different industries for Vietnamese workers in Thailand.

Regarding the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the two Labor Ministries and the labor agreement, Ambassador Thanh suggested that the two sides soon exchange technical delegations to discuss the signing of the extension of the MOU and the labor agreement. Accordingly, they should review and supplement the contents of the signed documents, including the addition of professions and industries. The Vietnamese Embassy to Thailand will support and promote cooperation between the relevant agencies of the two Labor Ministries.

Thai Deputy Minister of Labor Surachai Chaitrakulthong affirmed the increasingly good relationship and close cooperation between the two countries, especially the visit to Thailand and the APEC meeting of the Vietnamese President in November 2022, which has contributed to promoting relations between the two countries to a new height.

Deputy Minister Surachai Chaitrakulthong emphasized that both countries are ASEAN members, so there are many advantages and potentials in cooperation for mutual success and development. He also expressed his thank to the Vietnamese Government for supporting and creating favorable conditions for Thai citizens and Thai businesses in Vietnam over the past time.

Currently, the number of enterprises of the two countries investing in each other’s markets is increasing. According to Deputy Minister Surachai Chaitrakulthon, with nearly 100 million people, Vietnam provides abundant human resources for the development of the country as well as ASEAN countries including Thailand.

Ministry of Labor of Thailand agreed that the two sides should work towards measures to increase the number of Vietnamese workers to Thailand in the coming time. It is known that the Department of Skill Development under the Ministry of Labor of Thailand is creating favorable conditions to open training courses, fostering skills for laborers working in Thailand.

The Deputy Minister agreed with the recommendations and proposals of Vietnamese Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh, emphasizing that the two sides need to review and supplement the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding and the labor agreement. They should discuss for diverse industries for Vietnamese workers, especially in the service and agricultural sectors, and towards signing cooperation documents in the near time.
