Triumph of Vietnamese Badminton Player at 2024 Uganda International Challenge

Le Duc Phat, the sole representative from Vietnam, is currently competing in the 2024 Uganda International Challenge. His ultimate aim is to accumulate enough points to secure a spot in the highly anticipated Olympic Paris 2024.

Le Duc Phat – a Vietnamese badminton player – demonstrated an impressive performance at the 2024 International Challenge badminton tournament in Uganda, which took place from February 21 to 25, as reported by SGGPO.

During the tournament, Phat reached the men’s singles final, facing off against Indian badminton player Raghu Mariswamy. The match took place in Kampala on the evening of February 25, local time.

Both players demonstrated a high-speed, aggressive style of play. However, Le Duc Phat’s mental preparation and effective defense allowed him to confidently close the first set with a score of 21/18 in his favor. He continued to dominate in the second set, winning 21/14 as his opponent’s energy waned.

In the end, Phat secured a 2-0 victory, claiming the men’s singles championship of the tournament. This win marks Le Duc Phat’s first international triumph in 2024, as he previously fell short in the men’s singles finals of the 2024 International Challenge tournaments in Iran and Azerbaijan.

Earlier in the tournament, Phat defeated Italian rival Fabio Caponio (world seed No.90) with a close score of 19-21, 21-14, 21-13 in the Round of 16. He then went on to defeat US player Mark Shelley Alcala (world seed No.102) with a score of 21-18, 21-17 in the quarterfinals on February 23.

As the only Vietnamese player in the event, Phat is striving to earn points to secure a spot at the Olympic Paris 2024.

Prior to his victory at the 2024 Uganda International Challenge, Le Duc Phat reached the quarterfinals in the Iran Fajr International Challenge 2024, and the Round of 16 in the Azerbaijan International 2024.

Following the tournament, Le Duc Phat will return to Vietnam to compete in the Ciputra Hanoi – Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge 2024 badminton tournament. He previously reached the men’s singles final in last year’s tournament. The annual event will take place in Hanoi from March 12 to 17.
