Strengthening Vietnam-Laos Cooperation and People-to-people Exchanges

On March 15, in Hanoi, Phan Anh Son, President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, warmly welcomed Khamphao Ernthavanh, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The meeting focused on exploring concrete and impactful initiatives to enhance bilateral cooperation and foster people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.

Phan Anh Son congratulated Khamphao Ernthavanh on her appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Vietnam. He believes that the Ambassador’s significant work experience and capacity will enable her to effectively fulfill her responsibilities, thus actively contributing to the consolidation and development of Vietnam-Laos‘ great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation.

Phan Anh Son introduced the organizational structure, functions, tasks, and activities of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, stating that it is a sociopolitical organization specializing in people-to-people diplomacy in the fields of peace, solidarity, friendship, and people-to-people cooperation. The Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organization plays a vital role in people-to-people diplomacy and foreign non-governmental activities; it serves as a foreign political organization and is part of Vietnam’s specialist foreign affairs force.

“In recent times, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations has proactively coordinated with Lao partners in bilateral cooperation as well as in multilateral forums and mechanisms,” said Phan Anh Son.

According to him, in the future, it is necessary for the two sides to exchange ideas and coordinate to promote Vietnam-Laos people’s cooperation to develop in a more substantive, practical, and effective way.

Ambassador Khamphao Ernthavanh expressed gratitude for the invaluable support given by the Vietnamese Party, State, and People to the Lao Party, State, and People over the past time. As the Ambassador of Laos to Vietnam, she will do her best to fulfill the responsibilities set by the Party, State, and People of Laos.

Ambassador Khamphao Ernthavanh also proposed that the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations share its experience in organizing, developing, and researching people-to-people diplomacy activities.
