Marksmen Return with Greater Success to Vietnam

Two members of the Vietnamese national team, who are skilled marksmen, achieved remarkable success at an Asian tournament by winning gold medals. In addition, another member of the team secured Vietnam's fourth qualification spot for the well-anticipated Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

Trinh Thu Vinh and Pham Quang Huy from Vietnam clinched the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team category at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2024 in Indonesia, according to the Vietnamese shooting team’s training board. The event took place from January 5-18 and is considered a qualifying round for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Only individual events are taken into account for the ticket to the Games.

The silver medal went to Arjun Cheema and Rhythm Sangwan from India.

On January 8, Pham Quang Huy competed in the men’s 10m air pistol event, but unfortunately was not able to secure a ticket to the Games. He will now have to rely on the next qualifying round of the 2024 NRA World Shooting Championship in April.

However, Trinh Thu Vinh has already secured her ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games based on her outstanding performance at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2024 held in Indonesia from January 7-17.

The coaching staff announced on January 10 that Tuyen had qualified for the Olympics by scoring 125.9 points in the finale and ranking fourth in the women’s 10-metre air pistol event.

Vinh had previously secured her spot at the Olympics by achieving a high result at the 53rd ISSF World Shooting Championships in Azerbaijan in August 2023.

Cyclist Nguyen Thi That and swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang have also qualified for the summer games in Paris.
