In response to inquiries from reporters regarding Vietnam’s stance on the actions of China and the Philippines in the Hoai An, Tri Le, and Cai Vung Reefs in the Truong Sa archipelago, Spokesperson Hang reaffirmed Vietnam’s unwavering position. She asserted that Vietnam possesses irrefutable legal grounds and historical evidence to substantiate its sovereignty over the Truong Sa islands, as governed by international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982). This convention also establishes Vietnam’s sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction over its maritime zones.

Hang emphasized that any unauthorized entry or activity on features falling within Vietnam’s sovereignty constitutes a violation of its territorial integrity. Such actions complicate the situation and contravene the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea/South China Sea (DOC). They also undermine the ongoing efforts of nations in negotiating a Code of Conduct (COC) to ensure peace and stability in these waters.

Vietnam strongly urges all parties involved to respect its sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago and to refrain from engaging in activities that escalate tensions. It is imperative that all parties abide by international law, fully implement the DOC, and contribute constructively toward maintaining a peaceful and stable environment in the East Sea, stated the spokesperson.

She concluded by reiterating Vietnam’s commitment to resolving territorial disputes in the East Sea, including those pertaining to the Truong Sa islands, through peaceful means and in accordance with international law.
