The US Embassy in Hanoi recently discussed bilateral tourism development and acknowledged Vietnam’s effective control of epidemics, highlighting the country as a safe destination for tourists. The presence of numerous Western tourists still in Vietnam during this time is a positive sign of the local tourism sector’s growth amidst the global COVID-19 outbreak.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Vietnam’s recognition as one of the ten most attractive destinations worldwide in 2019 by the U.S. Travel Association demonstrates significant interest from American tourists in the Southeast Asian country. Therefore, experts suggest that local tourism agencies and relevant authorities should target American tourists to compensate for the loss of Asian tourist arrivals and also consider the US as a potential long-term market for Vietnam’s tourism industry.

In an effort to attract more American tourists to Vietnam, local tourist agencies and relevant authorities have been implementing promotional programs specifically aimed at the US market.
