President holds talks with Swiss counterpart

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc held talks with his Swiss counterpart Guy Parmelin on November 26 as part his official visit to the European country.

During the talks, the two leaders discussed and agreed on various measures to promote the Vietnam-Switzerland relations, which is still not commensurate with the two countries’ potentials and advantages.

President Guy Parmelin emphasized that Vietnam is an important economic partner of Switzerland in Southeast Asia. The potential for cooperation between the two countries is still very large.

For his part, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam is making efforts to further improve its investment environment and create more favorable conditions for foreign investors, including those from Switzerland. Vietnam wants Switzerland to invest in fields where it has strengths, such as finance – banking, insurance, pharmaceuticals, Phuc added.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese president sincerely thanked the Swiss government for providing valuable ODA for Vietnam over the past time.

President Guy Parmelin said Vietnam is an effective ODA user and the Swiss government has decided to provide 70 million Swiss francs in ODA to Vietnam in 2021-2024 period.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the Swiss leader emphasized the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation, compliance with international law, and that disputes must be settled based on transparent dialogue and building trust./.
