Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is not only a cultural hub but also a culinary delight, and now, thanks to Vietnam Airlines, these flavors are taking to the skies! Passengers are in for a treat as they get to sample a variety of regional specialties onboard.
Among the mouth-watering offerings are banh mi, Vietnam’s famous baguette with a twist, xoi khuc (sticky rice and cudweed balls), a traditional treat, and fresh fruits like Moc Chau strawberries and Son La plums. These treats are a delightful surprise for travelers, bringing a taste of Vietnam to their journey.
One passenger, Hikaru Nakamura, flying with Vietnam Airlines from Hanoi to Japan, was captivated by the unique dessert. “I was intrigued by the plum mousse cake. The tartness of the fruit combined with the creamy mousse was a delightful surprise, and the vibrant color was so inviting. It’s a flavor I won’t forget and I plan to hunt down these plums on my next visit to Vietnam,” she enthused.
Son La, a northern mountainous province, is renowned for its plum plantations, spanning over 12,300 hectares and producing a staggering 90,000 tonnes annually. Vietnam Airlines celebrates this harvest, offering fresh plums with salt, plum mousse cakes, and plum tea during the season, which runs from April to July.
The airline’s commitment to showcasing Vietnam’s agricultural diversity doesn’t stop there. They’ve launched a program to bring a variety of farm-fresh produce onboard, promoting sustainable development and supporting local communities. This includes Moc Chau strawberries, Hung Yen longan, Bac Giang lychees, Hoa Binh oranges, and Nghe An Xa Doai oranges, a true feast for the senses!
But that’s not all. Vietjet Air, another Vietnamese airline, has taken a different approach by incorporating street food favorites into their in-flight menu. Their offering of banh mi, recognized by National Geographic as a top street food delicacy, is a hit with passengers. It’s an authentic taste of Vietnam, freshly prepared and full of flavor.
