The set of stamps aims to promote the biodiversity of Vietnamese chickens and contribute to the conservation of some Vietnamese purebred chicken species for regional economic development.

Designed by painter Nguyen Du of the Vietnam Post, the set includes four stamps with face values of VND 4,000; VND 4,000; VND 4,000 and VND 12,000, introducing the species: Multi-toed chicken, Dong Tao chicken, H’Mong chicken and Lac Thuy chicken.

The stamp sample measures 37 x 37 millimetres.

The content on each stamp shows the characteristics of each breed of chicken associated with their habitat. Materials for the stamp are provided by the National Institute of Animal Sciences under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Previously, Vietnam Post had issued a number of stamp sets on the theme of chickens such as: the “Rooster” set including eight samples (issued on February 29, 1968); "Poultry" including eight samples (issued on September 15, 1986); "Cockfighting" with four samples (issued on February 8, 2000); “Some wild chickens” including five samples and one block of stamps (issued on April 1, 2006).

On September 12, 2013, Vietnam Post issued a joint stamp Vietnam – Singapore: Celebrating 40 years of anniversary of diplomatic ties (August 1, 1973 – August 1, 2013), including two stamps introducing two typical chicken breeds from the two countries.

The "Vietnamese Native Chicken" set will be available on the public postal network from August 25, 2021 to June 30, 2023.
