The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MERCOSUR-ASEAN Chamber of Commerce (MACC), ambassadors of ASEAN countries, Japan, Uruguay and the Republic of Korea, the Argentine Council of International Relations (CARI) and the Argentina-Vietnam Culture Institute (ICAV).
Ambassador Duong Quoc Thanh of Vietnam to Argentina emphasized that 2023 is a significant year in the cooperation, solidarity, and friendship between Vietnam and Argentina, as the two countries celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations (October 25, 1973 – 2023) and 13 years of the Comprehensive Partnership. Numerous meaningful and diverse political activities have been organized, particularly the visit of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to Argentina in April.
According to the ambassador, cultural diplomacy acts as a bridge that brings people closer together, and Vietnamese cuisine, such as spring rolls, has been very popular among Argentinian friends for years. Additionally, economic diplomacy plays a crucial role in the relationship between the two countries, particularly since Vietnam and Argentina express their desire to commence negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).
Rodolfo Caffaro Kramer, the Global President of MACC, stated that he will lead a business delegation to Vietnam in October next year and is making efforts to promote FTA negotiations between MERCOSUR, of which Argentina is a founding member, and Vietnam.
