According to reports from local authorities, a total of 411,112 residents in the three districts have voted in favor of the establishment of the city, with over 80% supporting the proposal.

The HCM City People’s Council has scheduled a meeting on October 12 to discuss and provide their opinion on the matter, after which the municipal people’s committee will submit an official proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs by October 25.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has previously approved the implementation of the policy to establish Thu Duc City in Ho Chi Minh City, which involves the consolidation of three districts – 2, 9, and Thu Duc – to create new administrative units at the district and commune levels.

Thu Duc City is projected to contribute 30% to HCM City’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and 7% to the country’s GDP, making it a significant contributor to the overall economy.
