The Miss Vietnam beauty contest, originally scheduled to take place in May, has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The organizers have made the decision to delay the event to an unknown date in light of the complex developments surrounding the virus.

The beauty pageant was initially planned to run from May to August, with a press conference set to be held in March. However, Le Xuan Son, the chief organizer, expressed concerns about holding the event during this sensitive time with the country’s efforts to combat the epidemic. As a result, the organizers decided to postpone the contest, despite having everything prepared.

The contest is still accepting applications, but a new date has not been determined. Son acknowledged that the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic poses the biggest challenge for organizing the beauty pageant. Nevertheless, they remain prepared to proceed with the competition in a timely manner, depending on the circumstances of the epidemic.

The Miss Vietnam competition, first established in 1988, is a national beauty pageant open to women aged 18 to 27. The reigning Miss Vietnam titleholder is Tran Tieu Vy, who was crowned on September 16, 2018, in Ho Chi Minh City.

As of February 26, Vietnam has reported a total of 35 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of these, 16 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from the hospital. The remaining 19 patients, including eight Vietnamese, nine British citizens, one Mexican, and one Irish national, are currently receiving treatment in isolated hospital wards.

The most recent case, Patient No. 17, was confirmed on Friday last week in Hanoi. Prior to this, Vietnam had not reported any new infections since February 13. This female patient is believed to have traveled from London, and she has been identified as the source of several other positive cases who were on the same plane that arrived at Noi Bai International Airport on March 2. It is suspected that she concealed her recent trips to Italy and France in order to avoid mandatory quarantine during immigration procedures at the airport.
