In a heartwarming display of altruism, a hospital reached out to four families who had lost their loved ones and were facing the devastating news that they had been declared brain-dead. With immense courage and selflessness, these families chose to donate their departed family members’ organs, offering a chance at life to 15 individuals desperately in need of transplants.
During the same week, the hospital also facilitated six kidney transplants from living donors, marking a significant milestone for Vietnam’s healthcare industry. This is the first time the hospital has performed such a high number of organ transplants in a single week.
The recipients of these precious gifts included four individuals who received heart transplants, seven who received kidney transplants, three who underwent liver transplants, and one patient who received both a kidney and liver transplant. These life-saving procedures would not have been possible without the bravery and compassion of the donor families.
Post-surgery, the patients are stable and on the road to recovery. The hospital director, Duong Duc Hung, expressed his deepest gratitude to the donor families, acknowledging that their selfless acts have not only saved numerous lives but also significantly enhanced the hospital’s organ transplant capabilities.
As a token of appreciation, Dr. Hung announced that starting in 2025, the hospital will provide priority access cards for medical examinations and treatments to the parents of organ donors, honoring their invaluable contribution.
A heartfelt thank you to all involved in this life-affirming story.
