Since its establishment on August 28, 1945, Vietnamese diplomacy has contributed greatly to the fight for national independence and reunification, as well as to national renovation, global integration and national defence, which helps consolidate and enhance Vietnam's position in the world arena.
Annually, the “Homeland Spring” programme is held during the “Ong Cong - Ong Tao” (Land Genie and Kitchen Gods) worshipping ceremony on December 23 of the lunar calendar to welcome overseas Vietnamese from 103 countries and territories in the world who return to Vietnam to enjoy Tet, a traditional festival of the nation.
It became a great significant cultural event of Vietnam when “The Worship of Hung Kings in Phu Tho” was officially recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of mankind by UNESCO. It is the first time the custom of worshipping the ancestors of a nation was honoured by UNESCO, thus adding another precious heritage to the cultural treasures of humanity.

Vietnam and Venezuela officially established diplomatic ties in December 1989. However, the people of the two countries have understood and supported each other for a lot longer. During the resistance war against the US for national freedom, the Venezuelan people, together with those who loved peace in the world, launched a movement of solidarity to support Vietnam. And the event in October 1964 is a vivid example when the Venezuelan guerillas in Caracas participated in kidnapping an American Lieutenant Colonel, with the aim of exchanging him for the freedom of Vietnamese hero Nguyen Van Troi who was captured and sentenced to death by the Saigon puppet army.
NDO – Vietnamese action movie “Hai Phuong”, also known as “Furie”, has been selected by the Vietnam Cinema Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the Vietnamese representative for the preliminary round of the Best International Film award at the Oscars 2020.
